Do we still tour if it is raining?

Do Red Dog Wine Tours Operate When It Rains?

Yes — normal rain does not stop our Kelowna wine tours. Wine country is beautiful in every season, and a rainy day can still be a great day to visit the wineries.

Most of the wine tasting takes place indoors, so once you arrive at the winery you can get comfortable, enjoy the tasting and learn about the wines without worrying about the weather outside.

What if it rains during the tour?

Our vehicles are equipped to keep you comfortable between wineries, and we have umbrellas available for guests when you need to walk between the vehicle and the tasting room.

You may actually find that a rainy day gives you a different perspective on the Okanagan. The mountains, vineyards and Okanagan Lake can still be beautiful when the weather changes, and the wineries provide a warm and comfortable place to spend your time.

What about wildfire smoke? Wine tours can often continue during periods of wildfire smoke, but conditions can change quickly. We monitor conditions and local advisories, and wineries may adjust their operations when necessary. What about wildfires and wildfire smoke?

Wildfire conditions are something we take seriously. Wildfires and smoke can occur in the Okanagan during the summer, and conditions can change quickly. A wildfire in the region does not automatically mean that a wine tour will be cancelled, but we monitor conditions and consider road closures, winery operations, air quality, evacuation orders and the safety of our guests and drivers.

If the wineries on your itinerary are open and it is safe to travel, the tour may continue even when there is some wildfire smoke in the area. However, if conditions become unsafe or a winery or route is affected by a wildfire, we may need to change the itinerary, postpone the tour or cancel it.

If Red Dog needs to cancel a tour because of wildfire conditions or another safety issue, we will contact affected guests and provide the applicable options under our cancellation policy.

Should I cancel because the forecast calls for rain or smoke?

Not necessarily. Weather and wildfire conditions can change quickly in the Okanagan. Unless Red Dog contacts you about a cancellation or there is another reason you cannot attend, plan to go ahead with your tour.

If there is an active wildfire or significant smoke in the area, we recommend checking the latest information and contacting us if you have concerns about your particular tour.
