All the wineries except for Sandhill Wines located downtown, are located in the hillside orchards that surround the city. Kelowna and West Kelowna are cites that have about 45% agricultural land within them. There are 40 wineries within these cities. You will find that Kelowna is very spread out. In 1973 the establishment of the Agricultural Land Reserve in BC froze agricultural land leaving large agricultural pockets in the city. You will find pockets of residential and commercial zoned land in all parts of the city. A drive to the wineries take you through beautiful farms, orchards and vineyards with lands sloping up to the mountains with spectacular views. Only a few are easily accessible by public transit, so you need a car or a tour company to take you.
