How many wineries do we visit?

How Many Wineries Will You Visit on a Wine Tour?

Red Dog’s standard public Kelowna wine tours visit exactly 4 wineries during the afternoon. Four winery stops give you enough variety to experience different wines and tasting rooms without spending the afternoon rushing from one stop to another.

Our goal is not to see as many wineries as possible. We want you to have enough time at each stop to enjoy the tasting, learn about the wines, ask questions and take in the surroundings.

Why does Red Dog visit 4 wineries?

  • Time to enjoy each winery — We generally allow about an hour at each stop, giving you time for the tasting, presentation, questions and, if you wish, shopping for wine.
  • A relaxed pace — Our tours are designed around enjoying the experience rather than trying to visit as many wineries as possible.
  • Enough variety — Four wineries give you the opportunity to experience different wines, tasting rooms, vineyards and personalities without making the afternoon feel repetitive or exhausting.
  • Responsible tasting — Wine tours are about tasting and discovering what you enjoy, not consuming as much wine as possible. Guests can take smaller sips, use the spittoon or simply pass on a wine if they don’t want to finish a pour.

How long do you spend at each winery?

We generally allow about one hour at each winery. This gives the winery presenter time to explain the wines and gives guests an opportunity to ask questions, taste at a comfortable pace and browse wines available for purchase.

The exact timing can vary slightly depending on the winery, the tasting experience and the day’s route.

Can a private wine tour visit different wineries?

Yes. Private tours provide considerably more flexibility. The wineries and route can be discussed when planning your private tour, allowing us to build an itinerary around your group’s interests, the time available and winery availability.

If you have specific wineries you want to visit, let us know when planning your private tour. Some wineries require advance reservations, so contacting us ahead of time is recommended.

Why doesn’t Red Dog visit more wineries?

It is possible to visit more wineries in a day, but doing so often means shorter tastings, more time driving and less opportunity to actually enjoy each stop.

Our philosophy is simple: four good winery experiences are better than rushing through six or seven. We want you to have time to listen to the winery presenters, taste the wines, ask questions and enjoy the scenery.

That relaxed approach is one of the reasons the 4-winery afternoon tour is our standard public-tour format.

Where does the standard wine tour go?

Our popular public afternoon wine tour focuses on the West Kelowna wine route. The route provides an opportunity to experience West Kelowna wine country while enjoying views of vineyards, Okanagan Lake and the surrounding landscape.

The specific winery lineup can change. We select the wineries for each tour based on the route, availability and the overall experience we want to provide that day, so we do not promise a specific winery lineup in advance.

Private tours can provide more flexibility depending on your group’s interests and the wineries available for your date.
